Week 5 Update: Greetings band families: New assignments are loaded in Google Classroom for this week. These assignments are meant to keep us involved with music and when possible playing our instruments. PLEASE do not stress if you are not able to complete one of the assignments. Each week I will post a playing assignment as well as a written assignment. Do what you can! If you need the class code for the Google Classroom you can find it down below (under week 3)
I am so excited seeing the FlipGrid videos of students playing. The FlipGrid links are in Google Classroom. I miss seeing you all so the videos are awesome to stay connected, see your lovely faces and hear you play. Here is a video if you need assistance with using FlipGrid: https://vimeo.com/398016659
Missing all of my students and hoping you and your families are staying safe!
Week 4 Update: We know several students still have their band instrument at school. If you are one of those, please take this short survey https://forms.gle/VgA2UqU9G6oitKys9 to help us figure out the best way to coordinate the return of instruments.
There are 2 additional activities in the Google Classroom this week. The first activity is to practice counting rhythms and the second is to record yourself playing your favorite band song from this ear or last year and submit a video using FlipGrid. If you are looking for an activity to keep you active on your instrument you can always go back to a previous week. Signing up and completing a SmartMusic assignment or submitting a FlipGrid Video.
Starting next week through the end of school, I will be posting one playing assignment and one non-playing assignment for each week for students to complete.
Please let me know if you have any questions!

For this week I really want every student to join SmartMusic. As we are out of school longer and looking at possibly trying to do school work online-I would like to see if this will be a good option for us. SmartMusic is a web based program that will let you play along with accompaniment and submit assignments to Mrs. Powers. They are offering FREE access until June 30.
It's fun to look at the different music available and play along.
PLEASE take time to register with SmartMusic for a FREE account and join the correct class for your grade level. 7th Grade Class Code: NQYLU-ZFRJE 8th Grade Class Code: XFWHW-6Z2WK
Week 2 Update: Hi Band Families, First, I really want to say how much I miss making music with our band kids everyday. I miss it. I miss band. I miss my students. I am eager to interact with you, so please join our Google Classroom and share a little music with me!
For this week I have three activities for our band kids: 1.) Recruitment Project This would be the time that Mrs. Powers would be visiting schools to encourage 5th graders to join band for next year. In thinking about how we can get the word out when there is no school, I would like YOUR help.
2.) Movie Themes: In our Google Classroom I uploaded a sheet for each instrument with various movie themes. Choose a theme and submit your video to FlipGrid. The directions are in the Google Classroom.

The song is called Wildfire! and I listened to it-it is FUN. You can register, see the music, learn it at home and send in your recording. My email is [email protected] (it asks for that in the registration). Let me know if you register!
